Satellite Campus of Visual Arts
The new, prestigious location of the satellite campus for the Department of Visual Arts is at Piazza del Foro 2 in “Casa dei Palazzi,” set in the heart of the historic city center of Brescia and facing the Capitolium and other evidence of the Roman city of Brixia. The building is an important monument which was renewed in the middle of the 1500’s, and has tracings of masonry in its facade that date back to the first half of the 13th century. The courtyard is flanked with porticoes from the 15th and 16th centuries, and the building boasts a majestic staircase and frescoed rooms dating to the 1700’s (the “Sala dei Cammei” is one to be remembered). In addition to some schools’ workshops found here, there is also an exhibition space for contemporary art, “Spazio Laba” (LABA Space), which promotes a full calendar of exhibitions and events. Leno Laboratory
Cassa Padana in Leno, which is the sole sponsor of this initiative, has granted some rooms in Villa Badia in Leno for use by LABA. This extraordinary artistic and historic monument, dating to the beginning of the 1800’s and surrounded by a marvelous park, is the ideal context for cultural activity. LABA, which is always looking to establish ever-stronger and ever- more dynamic roots in the local community, has opened a laboratory in Leno for the School of Graphic Design and Multimedia Arts starting from the academic year of 2009/2010. This was done considering the high enrollment in the school, including students coming from the southern part of the Province of Brescia and from lower Lombardy. Therefore, students from the provinces of Cremona, Crema and Mantua are assisted.
